The Seattle Channel’s ART ZONE with Nancy Guppy to Feature Artist Kelly Neidig in April 2nd, 2010 Episode

Seattle, WA – March 31st, 2010: The Seattle Channel’s ‘Art Zone’ program will feature the fine art of Portland, Oregon painter Kelly Neidig, in its Friday, April 2nd episode. Host Nancy Guppy discovered Kelly’s fine art colorfield landscapes in oil during her showing in the “Representing Abstraction” show last Fall at the Museum of Northwest Art in La Connor, WA.

This week’s episode of Art Zone will feature Neidig’s paintings currently on exhibition at the Seattle Art Museum’s SAM Gallery “Introductions 2010” show. In addition to Kelly’s fine art, the show will also feature music, theater, film and “weird handmade machines that shoot real flames”.

The Art Zone, presented by the Seattle Channel, is a weekly show starring Nancy Guppy which is an innovative, first-in-the-nation TV project that creates programming celebrating local arts and culture and encourages people to go out and take part in the region's rich cultural life in person. Art Zone with Nancy Guppy features interviews with local Seattle artists and performers, reviews and previews of current offerings, 'and lots of surprises'. New episodes of Art Zone with Nancy Guppy premieres Friday nights at 8:00 p.m. (with play backs of ART ZONE throughout the week), and Wednesdays at 7:00 pm on KCTS Channel 9. Premiered episodes can be viewed online: www.seattlechannel.org/artzone

Please enjoy the upcoming episode of Art Zone on Friday, April 2nd, 2010 at 8:00 p.m. on Seattle Channel 21.

ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Born in Coraopolis, Pennsylvania in 1979, Neidig earned a BA in Integrative Arts from Penn State University, in 2001. Her work as a professional painter included time as a scenic painter for Sunbelt Scenic Studios in Tempe, AZ, before moving to Portland, OR in 2005. Neidig’s works have been shown at the Lucia Douglas Gallery, Bellingham; RetroFit, Seattle, and were featured in the 2009 “Representing Abstraction” at the Museum of Northwest Art in La Conner, WA. Neidig is an Oregon Arts Commission 2010 Individual Artist Fellowship recipient.
Kelly Neidig’s abstract landscapes are a broad representation of the land, and are filled with brightly colored stripes that may easily be seen as a fresh interpretation of the Color Field movement. View artwork here: www.KellyNeidigFineArt.com.

Drawing upon her experience living and traveling throughout the Northeast, Southwest, and the Pacific Northwest, Neidig’s current body of work is an examination of man’s ceaseless consumption of forests and farmland with our fabricated implements of urban sprawl. She masks these objects of industry with a liberal application of beautiful colors, allowing nature to assimilate the un-natural back into its fold.

Follow-up to Kelly Neidig's “Introductions 2010” Group Show at Seattle Art Museum (SAM) Gallery

Followup to Kelly Neidig's “Introductions 2010” Group Show at Seattle Art Museum (SAM) Gallery... (by Joe, Eloy Art)

...under a cloudless sky, Seattle shined a light on the SAM Gallery 'Introductions 2010' group show of newly-acquired artists! The line-up for this show is impressive, to say the least.

Mrs. Elroy and I began the evening with a quick visit to the SAM a block away to see the Calder exhibit, and need to go again when we have more time - love that Calder! And before heading over to see Kelly and her art in 'Introductions 2010', we paused to imbibe on Happy Hour fare from the knowledgeable barkeep (he will deny this accolade), Duncan, at the in-house Taste restaurant... Enjoyed the great experience so much so that we returned with Kelly and her husband Scott for another round after the show! Go see Duncan for a drinking lesson from a man who knows how to do it right...

Walking towards the SAM Gallery, we were delightfully surprised to see that 2 of Kelly's large paintings are displayed prominently in the huge windows facing 3rd at the corner of University! And also in the entry foyer are 3 more Neidigs...what an honor!

SAM Gallery Director, Barbara Shaiman, definitely brings value to the Gallery with her fine eye for talented PacNW artists who are 'sellable' to her clients of corporate and individual art patrons... I learned from a nice chat with her that Barbara is an artist by training, and has polished her curatorial chops with over 20 years of working with SAM! She is a charming, delightful woman who's depth of knowledge of the art scene makes me truly look forward to my next SAM Gallery visit!

Other art includes the works on paper and illuminated window installation art of Julie Alpert, the organic imagery of Robin M. Green, James Brown, Emily Pothast (whose beautiful 'Synergy' is featured on the show poatcard), Joey Veltkamp's striking monochromatic flowers, Kimberly Trowbridge, and Kerry Vander Meer's gorgeous colorwork...

So make your way down to the windows of the SAM Gallery this month and peek inside at Kelly Neidig's work...it'll draw you in to a world of fantastic PacNW art, and you'll be the better for it...
